The internship interview benefits both students and employers. The following list outlines some helpful internship interview questions :

• What is your major and how does it tie into our current internship program?

• How did you find out about our internship program?

• Are you seeking an internship that requires college credit?

• Are you a Junior or a Senior?

• Do you require a paid internship?

• Are you currently working? If yes, where?

• Will you be taking classes or working in addition to your internship?

• What are some of your expectations in regards to the internship program?

• What are some of your strengths?

• What are some of your weaknesses?

• What is your availability to intern at our company?

• What are the internship requirements of your school?

• What would you say is your greatest accomplishment to date?

• What are your goals beyond graduation?

During the internship interview, request an email or a phone response. This way you will be able to view writing and telephone skills. If you are pleased with the interview and would like to offer the student the internship, don’t forget to review some basic policies:

• Confirm the name of the supervisor

• Specify the person who will train the intern

• Review dress codes, timesheet maintenance and procedures to sign-in and out of the office.

• If the internship pays a stipend for mileage, confirm before making an offer.

• Review the amount of time approved for lunch and breaks.

Remember the goal of the internship is to provide a positive experience for both the student and the company.
