Latest Technology For Back To School

By Teresa Ryder - September 13, 2010 1:37 pm

Technology is everything these days. Everyone and everything revolves around it. The newest computers, iPads, iPhones, apps, droids, you name it.

Ironically enough, before I typed this up, I wrote it on PAPER.  Yes, paper.  Granted this is because my laptop died and I can’t  get to a power outlet (which shows the inspiration of this blog). My hand is starting to cramp from writing so much, but honestly, I’m glad I’m doing it this way. The last time I remember handwriting something was in grade school. Since high school, I’ve used nothing but laptops. Even now, kids as young as two years old can work on a laptop. Now I’m not saying technology is a bad or anything. I love it. This is just a mere observation of our society.

Even USA Intern has caught onto the technology bug. They are giving away an eReader this fall. If you register for free on the site, you will be entered to win a NOOK by Barnes and Noble. It’s great because students can download textbooks onto it and not have to carry heavy bookbags across campus.  Another feature that USA Intern is using is the new Text Alert Service for student cell phones. If an employer see’s your resume in the database and it’s a good fit for their internship, the employer can send an automated message to your cell phone requesting an interview. (Not to worry, it’s all automated and employers don’t see your cell number through this service.)  This helps students and employers to secure an internship faster than ever before!

Companies depend more and more on the latest technology especially when looking for intern and full time employees. Many companies rely on technology that can organize resume submissions. They can categories resumes by date, location and keyword, so make sure that you are using the correct terms that will catch the eye of your intended employer.

Students, myself included, love social networking technology. But be careful. Big brother is always watching. More and more employers are checking Facebook pages prior to hiring interns and employees.

Everything is going to be come more and more advanced as the years go on. What you are using as a Freshman in college will be obsolete by the time you graduate. Have fun and use it wisely!
